It is a free, government-administered system supporting consumers’ Section 11 Consumer Protection Act right to block direct marketing. For motorists, this can include unsolicited vehicle-sales, finance, warranty, insurance and service-plan promotions.
The NCC says direct marketers must register and cleanse their lists against the registry every month before campaigns. A requested callback about a vehicle, finance application, trade-in or service booking is different from an unsolicited campaign.
No system can guarantee that. Criminals may ignore the registry, spoof numbers or impersonate trusted brands. Treat unexpected payment and OTP requests as potential fraud.
Good dealership marketing is transparent, traceable and respectful: it records lead sources, honours opt-outs and separates requested service communication from promotions.
