Answer first: Ford South Africa has recalled certain 2025 and 2026 Ranger vehicles under campaign 25S77 because a software issue may cause loss of brake boost. Ford says 5,387 vehicles are affected in South Africa. Owners should check the vehicle’s 17-digit VIN and arrange the free dealer software update if the recall is open.
Information checked: 16 October 2026. Based on Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa’s official recall notice.

The campaign covers certain 2025 and 2026 Ford Ranger vehicles. Model year alone does not confirm that an individual bakkie is affected; Ford identifies recall eligibility by VIN.
Ford says an affected vehicle may lose brake boost. The brakes do not simply disappear, but substantially more pedal effort may be required and stopping distance may increase, raising crash risk.
Safety warning: If braking effort suddenly increases or several brake warnings appear, reduce speed smoothly, avoid abrupt manoeuvres and stop in the nearest safe place. Do not attempt a roadside software or brake-system repair. Contact Ford or roadside assistance.
Ford says the dealer will inspect the vehicle and complete the relevant software update at no charge.
Ford lists 5,676 affected vehicles in Southern Africa: 5,387 in South Africa, 113 in Botswana, 157 in Namibia and 19 in Eswatini.
If you are considering a used 2025 or 2026 Ranger, ask for the VIN and check open recalls before concluding the deal. Request dealer evidence after campaign completion. An open recall should be addressed promptly.

ABS helps prevent wheel lock during hard braking, while brake boost reduces pedal effort. Ford says loss of boost may be accompanied by ABS, stability-control and brake warnings. Follow the instrument message and owner’s manual.
