Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator Recall: 1 896 Vehicles in SA

Answer first: Stellantis South Africa is recalling certain Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Gladiator vehicles because an electrical connection at the electric-hydraulic power-steering pump may develop high resistance. This can cause loss of steering assistance and, in some circumstances, overheating that could lead to a fire. The National Consumer Commission says 1 896 vehicles are affected, including 1 881 sold nationally. Affected vehicles were offered for sale between 2021 and 2025.

Information checked: 3 November 2026.
What is wrong with the affected Jeeps?
The NCC says the electric-hydraulic power-steering pump has an electrical connection that may be susceptible to high resistance. Drivers may see a loss-of-power-steering warning or a Service Power Steering message.
High resistance at the connection can create heat. If combustible material in or around the vehicle overheats, a fire may occur, increasing the risk of injury to occupants and people nearby.
What Jeep owners in South Africa should do
- Check the VIN: use the official VIN-check facility on the Jeep South Africa website or contact an authorised Jeep dealer.
- Book the vehicle in: the NCC advises owners to take affected vehicles to their nearest authorised Jeep dealership.
- Do not pay for the recall repair: inspection and necessary recall work must be completed at no cost.
- Keep proof: retain the booking confirmation and completed job card with the vehicle records.
Does every 2021-2025 Wrangler or Gladiator qualify?
No. The sales period identifies the broad population described by the NCC, but recall eligibility is determined by the vehicle identification number. Do not assume a vehicle is included or excluded based only on its registration year, trim or appearance.
Can you keep driving while waiting for a booking?
The NCC notice directs consumers to an authorised Jeep dealership for inspection and repair. Ask the dealer whether your specific VIN has any stop-drive or parking instruction. If steering assistance is lost, steering can become much heavier, especially at low speed. A warning, burning smell, unusual heat or smoke should be treated as urgent.
Buying a used Wrangler or Gladiator?
Before paying, check the VIN for outstanding campaigns and ask for recall-completion records. A recall does not automatically make a used vehicle a poor purchase, but unresolved safety work should be completed. Browse our current showroom, learn about finance options, or request a trade-in assessment.
